Diane Kennedy
is used to being behind the scenes in a television studio. However, she
didn't shy away from the chance to make her debut in front of the camera
on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" It was at Fox 32 that she first became a fan of Millionaire. Kennedy and her co-workers would talk trivia at lunch and call the show's hotline. She got through the first round on her second try. "I wasn't really trying to get on," said Kennedy. "It was something to do over lunch." But, that's exactly what she did. And a week and a half later, Kennedy was in New York, taping the show. |
| "You never think it's going to
happen. Then it does. Then you think, this is incredible," said Kennedy.
"Incredible" is how she described her entire trip. Kennedy didn't make it into the hot seat except during the practice round. She said that round was a lot easier than the actual production, which included strobe lights, dramatic music, and a riled up audience. "(There are) strobe lights going on, audience is right there, I mean there's no room. I felt like they were leaning over my shoulder to see what I was doing," said Kennedy. She said focusing in on the question wasn't easy with all the commotion during the "Fast Finger Round." Plus, her fingers weren't moving fast enough, and then they were moving too fast. "I was trying to do it too fast," said Kennedy. "I wasn't hitting the right buttons." But there's no going back once that "OK" button has been pressed. Not making it to the hot seat was "not upsetting, but, oh, I was so close," said Kennedy. However, who could be upset with a free trip to New York City and the chance to be on national TV. Not Kennedy. "It was worth it to just be part of the thing," said Kennedy, who took a long walk on a beautiful night through Times Square before boarding the plane back to Chicago and her role on the other side of the camera. |
